All hail writers
Those who seek to fill the white bright void
Of the Empty Page
It’s tricky business
Using fragile words to pin down
Paper Demons whispering in your ear all sorts of interesting things
Some are sharp some are flat and have a damned easy time
Hiding between the lines you haven’t even written yet
Ideas; the amorphous breath of a suggestion
Itching to find a shape and latch on to the nearest brain
Open to the notion
It’s not quite easy
Forging Paper Cages for your little thoughts
Each word has to be just right
So just Write and hope for the best
It’s not like welding bars of steel to build a real cage
No Sir
The paper variety can take a whole lot longer to construct
Or mere moments and a fast set of fingers
Tap-dancing across the pegs of the Qwerty
Each bar has to find its home
Its partner
Its niche in conjunction with all the bars to come before it and the bars to  follow
And a bar may be just what the wordsmith needs to find himself the proper mettle
Drinking in determination with a shot of grease to oil the wheels once more
It’s not like welding bars of steel to build a real cage
Because the steel cage is only useful after it’s complete
The paper cage start their work from the first keystroke to the last
And the tiger won’t exactly sit still as the cage gets erected around it

Paper Demons are kinda tricky
Because in addition to being little soft-voiced bastards
They can also be parakeets
For once the cage is finished they  may just sing their little hearts out
Every time your eyes grace the page that plays their stage
Of Sage wisdom or age-old nonsense.
It’s not like welding bars of steel to build a real cage
No sir but they do have at least one thing in common
Sometimes a blowtorch seems like the best tool to use regardless
Little paper demons hoping to manage manifestation by dangling from your follicles and singing into your ear canal
Tra la la la la la la
Make me flesh and blood and short of that, make me fiber and ink
And use a good stock that won’t smear
They come in great numbers or single file or not at all
But they come all the same
After all an idea unthought is about the most useless thing in the world
Aside from Mary Kate and Ashley movies
So craft your cages well, writers
And catch yourself a demon
